Wall mounted electric heaters give you room by room heating with no plumbing and no floor space lost. This range covers smart WiFi electric radiators, slim panel heaters, convector heaters and bathroom towel radiators, all delivered free to every county in the Republic of Ireland from the first euro.
What types of wall mounted electric heater are there?
Four main types: oil filled electric radiators, slim panel heaters, convector heaters and towel radiators. They differ in how quickly they heat and how long the warmth lasts.
Oil filled electric radiators are the closest thing to a plumbed radiator. They warm up steadily and keep radiating after the thermostat cycles off, which suits living rooms and bedrooms used for hours at a time. Panel heaters are slimmer and lighter, heat up faster, and suit home offices and spare rooms. Convector heaters warm the air directly for near instant heat at the lowest purchase price. Towel radiators are made for bathrooms, warming towels and taking the chill off the room.
Which wall mounted heater is best for a bedroom?
An oil filled electric radiator with a timer or app control suits bedrooms best, because it runs silently and holds a set temperature overnight.
Silence is the deciding factor in a bedroom, and oil filled radiators have no fan and no moving parts. A model with WiFi control lets you schedule the room to warm up before bedtime and switch off after you fall asleep. For a typical Irish bedroom, 600W to 900W is usually enough.
How much does a wall mounted electric heater cost to run?
At typical Irish electricity rates a 1000W heater costs roughly 35 cent an hour while actually heating, and a thermostat cuts real usage well below that.
The headline wattage is the maximum draw. Once the room reaches your set temperature, the thermostat cycles the element on and off to hold it, so a heater rated at 1000W spends much of the evening drawing nothing. Heating only the rooms you are using, on timers, is where electric heating earns its keep against running a whole house system for one occupied room.
What size electric heater do I need for my room?
Allow roughly 100 watts per square metre of floor area, so a 12 square metre bedroom needs about 1200W, and more in older or draughty homes.
As a guide, 600W covers a box room of around 6 to 8 square metres, 900W to 1200W covers most bedrooms and home offices, and 1500W to 2000W suits sitting rooms and open plan spaces up to about 20 square metres. Poor insulation, high ceilings and large windows all push the requirement up a size.
Do I need an electrician to install a wall mounted heater?
Not usually. Most models here hang on wall brackets and plug into a normal socket, but a hardwired fused spur is a job for a registered electrician.
Bathrooms are the exception. A towel radiator or any heater in a bathroom must be suitable for its zone and should be installed by a registered electrician, wired to a fused spur outside the reach of the bath or shower. If in doubt, call us and we will talk you through what the model you are looking at needs.
Are wall mounted electric heaters safe to leave on?
Yes, when used properly. Every heater in this range has an adjustable thermostat plus overheat protection, and wall mounting keeps them clear of curtains and clutter.
Never dry clothes over a panel or convector heater. Towel radiators are the one type designed to have fabric on them. Use the built in timers or app schedules rather than leaving a heater running in an empty house, both for safety and for the electricity bill.
