Do electric towel rails use a lot of electricity?

Not much. This towel radiator draws 500W or 750W, about 19 or 29 cent an hour at 38.04 cent per kWh while heating.

The maths: 0.5 kW x 38.04 cent is 19.02 cent an hour, and 0.75 kW x 38.04 cent is 28.53 cent an hour. The unit rate is the Electric Ireland 24 hour standard unit rate from 1 July 2026, including VAT. Schedules in the Tuya app keep it off when nobody needs the bathroom, and because it runs on its own circuit you can warm towels without running the central heating.

Are electric towel rails worth it?

For most bathrooms, yes. You get warm, dry towels and gentle background heat all year round, with no plumbing and no boiler running in summer.

They suit en suites, apartments and rental properties especially well, where the landlord lock keeps settings under control. In a large, cold bathroom a towel rail takes the chill off rather than heating the room fast, so pair it with the Titan 2kW downflow bathroom heater.

Which is the best electric towel rail?

Choose the right wattage, a bathroom IP rating and proper controls. This Titan model is IP24 rated, Lot 20 compliant and WiFi controlled.

The 500W model suits bathrooms up to 5 square metres and the 750W model up to 7 square metres, in white or black, with an electronic control panel, a landlord lock and a 2 year warranty. To see it alongside the downflow heater, browse electric towel rails and bathroom heaters.

What are some common problems with heated towel rails?

Most complaints come down to an undersized rail, towels bunched so they never dry, or a rail left running when nobody is home.

Size the rail to the floor area, spread towels across the bars rather than folding them thickly, and use app schedules so it heats before you shower and switches off after. Because this model is electric with no plumbing, there is no connection to the central heating to bleed or balance. A hardwired bathroom appliance should be fitted by a registered electrician.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where can I buy an electric towel radiator in Ireland?
A: The Titan electric WiFi towel radiator is available from Shamrock Electrical at shamrockelectrical.ie, with free delivery to every county in the Republic of Ireland from the first euro, usually within a few working days. You can also collect from our store in Greenogue Business Park, Rathcoole, Co. Dublin.

Q: What size bathroom does it suit?
A: The 500W model, 515 x 930 mm, heats bathrooms up to 5 square metres. The 750W model, 515 x 1250 mm, heats up to 7 square metres.

Q: Does it need plumbing?
A: No. It is fully electric, so there is no plumbing at all. It heats towels and the bathroom on its own circuit, which also means you can have warm towels in summer without running the central heating.

Q: Is it safe for a bathroom, and do I need an electrician?
A: Yes, it is IP24 rated for bathroom use. As a hardwired bathroom appliance it should be installed by a registered electrician.

Q: Can I control it from my phone?
A: Yes. It connects to the Tuya Smart app over your home WiFi for schedules and remote control, and there is an electronic control panel on the unit. A landlord lock function lets you cap settings in rental properties.

Q: Is it energy efficient?
A: Yes. It is Lot 20 Ecodesign compliant, and because it is only 500W or 750W it sips power compared to a full heating system, costing roughly €0.19 to €0.29 an hour at 38.04 cent per kWh when heating.

Q: What warranty does it come with?
A: It comes with a 2 year warranty, and we deliver free to every county in the Republic of Ireland.
