WiFi smart plugs and time switches for Irish homes, from an independent Irish electrical supplier. Plug in smart plugs that need no wiring, socket box and DIN rail time switches for fixed installations, and boiler and immersion control modules. Free delivery applies to every order from the first euro, with no minimum spend.
What can I actually use a smart plug for?
Anything with a plug that you want on a schedule or controlled from your phone. Immersion heaters, towel rails, electric heaters, lamps, Christmas lights and dehumidifiers are the common ones.
The saving comes from the schedule rather than the gadget. An electric heater or an immersion left on a manual switch runs whenever somebody forgets, and a plug that turns it off at a set time removes that. The remote control is the part people enjoy, but the timer is the part that pays for itself.
What is the difference between a smart plug and a time switch?
A smart plug goes into a socket and needs no wiring. A time switch is wired into the circuit, either in a socket box or on a DIN rail in the board.
Choose the plug when the appliance plugs in and you want it running today. Choose a wired time switch when you are controlling something without a plug, such as an immersion, a boiler or outdoor lighting, or when you want the control out of sight and out of reach. Both are in this range, and the wired versions need an electrician.
Do these work with Alexa and Google?
The WiFi models do. They connect to your home network and pair with Alexa or Google Assistant for voice control and app scheduling from anywhere.
The non WiFi mechanical and quartz timers do not, and that is not always a downside. A mechanical timer keeps its schedule with no app, no account and no network, which is one less thing to fail. If you only want the heater on from six to eight, a plug in timer does that as reliably as anything smarter.
Can I control an immersion heater with one of these?
Yes, and it is one of the most common uses in Irish homes. There are dedicated boiler and immersion control modules in this range rated for the load.
Do not run an immersion through a standard 13A plug in smart plug. Immersion heaters draw a heavy sustained load and need a controller rated for it, wired in by an electrician. The heating controls and timers range covers immersion timers and boost switches specifically.
Do I need an electrician to fit one?
Not for a plug in smart plug, which goes straight into a socket. Yes for anything wired: socket box timers, DIN rail switches, boiler modules and thermostats.
The plug in units are genuinely plug and play, set up through an app in a few minutes. The wired units replace or sit alongside existing switchgear and are work for a registered electrician, particularly the DIN rail versions that go into the consumer unit.
Do smart plugs keep working if the internet goes down?
A schedule stored on the device keeps running. Remote control from your phone and voice control will not work until the connection comes back.
That is worth knowing before you rely on one for anything important. If the appliance genuinely must come on at a set time regardless, a mechanical or quartz timer has no dependency at all. For most household uses the schedule surviving is enough.
