What is a vanity mirror?
A vanity mirror is a mirror used up close for makeup, skincare or hair, usually on a dressing table and often with lights built in.
The difference from an ordinary wall mirror is the light. A lit vanity mirror puts even light on your face from the front, so there are fewer shadows under the eyes and chin and colours read closer to true. The mirrors in this range are plug in, dimmable and switch between warm, natural and cool white, and every one is delivered free to every county in Ireland.
What is a lighted vanity mirror?
A lighted vanity mirror has LED lights built into its frame, so your face is lit evenly from the front while you do makeup, skincare or hair.
Overhead lighting casts shadows under the eyes and chin, and a mirror lit from the front removes them. When you compare lighted vanity mirrors, look for dimming and a choice of colour temperature. Every one we stock is dimmable and switches between warm, natural and cool white, and the Hollywood LED Vanity Mirror adds a colour memory and a USB socket for charging a phone at the mirror.
What is a vanity bulb mirror?
A vanity bulb mirror is a Hollywood style mirror framed with round bulbs, like a theatre dressing room mirror. Today the bulbs are long life, low energy LEDs.
The Hollywood LED Vanity Mirror has 12 round 1W LED lamps, 12W in total, rated for 30,000 hours, so there are no bulbs to replace. It stands on a dressing table or hangs on the wall, in portrait or landscape, white or black. For a smaller table the Hollywood Pivot Lighted Vanity Mirror is 400x300mm and pivots between landscape and portrait. Both are IP20, for bedrooms and dressing rooms only. Our Hollywood mirrors buying guide compares them in more detail.
What kind of mirror is best for a vanity?
A lit mirror with dimmable light and adjustable colour temperature, sized to your dressing table. Natural white at 4000K suits everyday makeup best.
For a standard dressing table the Hollywood LED Vanity Mirror in portrait or landscape is the usual choice. A smaller table suits the 400x300mm Hollywood Pivot Lighted Vanity Mirror, and a dressing room suits the LED Full Length 5ft Mirror. Check the IP rating before you choose a spot: the two Hollywood mirrors are IP20, so they belong in a bedroom or dressing room and never in a bathroom. For a bathroom, see the IP44 rated LED bathroom mirrors with a built in demister.
Why is a mirror called a vanity?
The name comes from the vanity table, the dressing table used for hair and makeup, and the mirror on it took the same name.
Today the word covers any mirror used for grooming, from a small tabletop mirror to a full length one. Lit versions framed with a row of bulbs are often called Hollywood mirrors, after the dressing room mirrors used by film and stage performers. Our Hollywood mirrors buying guide covers brightness, colour temperature and sizing in more detail, and the full mirrors range includes the bathroom models.

Q: What vanity mirrors with lights do you stock in Ireland?
A: Shamrock Electrical stocks three lighted vanity mirrors available with free delivery across Ireland. The Hollywood LED Vanity Mirror is a classic Hollywood-style makeup mirror available in portrait or landscape orientation in white or black, priced from €119.99. The Hollywood Pivot Lighted Vanity Mirror is a compact 400x300mm dressing table mirror with a pivot design that switches between landscape and portrait, priced at €103.95. Q: What is the difference between the Hollywood vanity mirror and the pivot mirror?
A: The Hollywood LED Vanity Mirror is the larger of the two desktop mirrors, available in portrait or landscape orientation, and is the most popular choice for a dedicated dressing table setup. It has 10 customer reviews averaging 4.9 stars. The Hollywood Pivot Lighted Vanity Mirror is more compact at 400x300mm and features a pivot mechanism that lets you switch between landscape and portrait orientations without moving the mirror. Both use 12W LED lighting with three colour temperature settings and are plug-in with no hardwiring required.
Q: Which vanity mirror is suitable for bathroom use?
A: Only the Evolec LED Full Length 5ft Mirror carries an IP44 rating making it suitable for bathroom and damp area installation. The Hollywood LED Vanity Mirror and the Hollywood Pivot Lighted Vanity Mirror are both rated IP20, which means they are suitable for indoor dry use only such as a bedroom dressing table or dedicated makeup area. Do not install IP20 rated mirrors in bathrooms or areas exposed to moisture or steam.
Q: What colour temperature should I choose for a makeup mirror?
A: All three mirrors in our range offer three colour temperature settings. Warm white at 3000K produces a soft flattering light suitable for evening looks and general ambience. Natural white at 4000K provides balanced neutral light that closely resembles natural daylight and is the most popular choice for everyday makeup application. Cool white or daylight at 6000K to 6500K produces the brightest most colour-accurate light, ideal for detailed makeup work or colour matching. The Hollywood Pivot mirror includes a colour memory function that remembers your last used setting.
Q: Are your vanity mirrors dimmable?
A: Yes. All three lighted vanity mirrors in our range are dimmable. The Hollywood LED Vanity Mirror and Hollywood Pivot Lighted Vanity Mirror both feature adjustable brightness. The Evolec Full Length Mirror uses a one-key touch sensor for easy on/off and brightness control. Dimmable lighting allows you to adjust from a subtle ambient glow to full brightness depending on the task and time of day.
Q: What size vanity mirror do you stock?
A: We stock three sizes. The Hollywood Pivot Lighted Vanity Mirror is the most compact at 400x300mm, ideal for smaller dressing tables or limited spaces. The Hollywood LED Vanity Mirror is available in portrait or landscape orientation suited to a standard dressing table. The Evolec LED Full Length Mirror is the largest at 48.4x151.5cm, standing 5 feet tall and suitable for floor standing or wall hanging as a full length mirror with integrated lighting.
Q: Do your vanity mirrors need to be hardwired by an electrician?
A: No. All three vanity mirrors in our range are plug-in. The Hollywood LED Vanity Mirror and Hollywood Pivot Lighted Vanity Mirror both use a 240V to 12V plug-in driver. The Evolec Full Length Mirror comes with a 3 metre white power cord. No hardwiring or electrician is required for any of the three mirrors. Simply plug into a standard Irish 240V socket and they are ready to use.
