What is an oil filled radiator?
An electric heater with oil sealed inside its fins. The element warms the oil, and the oil radiates steady heat into the room.
The oil is never topped up or replaced; it simply stores heat. That is why an oil heater keeps warming the room after the thermostat switches the element off. This Titan model has nine fins and three settings of 800W, 1200W and 2000W.
Do oil filled radiators use a lot of electricity?
No more than any heater of the same wattage. At 2000W it uses 2 units an hour, less once the thermostat starts cycling.
Every electric heater turns its electricity into heat, so wattage and hours decide the bill, not the heater type. Where an oil filled radiator helps is heat retention: its warm oil keeps radiating after the element cycles off, so over a long evening the element spends less time drawing power. The 24 hour timer model stops it heating an empty room.
How much does it cost to run an oil filled radiator for 1 hour?
About 76 cent on the full 2000W setting, 46 cent on 1200W and 30 cent on 800W, at 38.04 cent per kWh including VAT.
The maths: 2 kW x 38.04 cent is 76.08 cent, 1.2 kW x 38.04 cent is 45.65 cent, and 0.8 kW x 38.04 cent is 30.43 cent. The unit rate is the Electric Ireland 24 hour standard unit rate from 1 July 2026. Those figures assume the element is heating the whole hour; once the room reaches your set temperature the thermostat cycles it, so the real cost is lower.
What are the downsides of an oil filled radiator?
It warms a room more slowly than a convector or fan heater and takes floor space. For quick bursts of heat, another type suits better.
The oil has to warm up before the room does, so switch it on a little ahead of time, or use the timer model. The castors and carry handle make it easy to move out of the way. It is not a bathroom heater. To compare all three portable types, read oil filled radiator vs convector vs fan heater or browse portable electric heaters.
Is an oil heater better than an electric panel heater?
For long spells in one room, yes, as it keeps radiating after switching off. For fast heat on a schedule, a panel heater suits better.
At the same wattage both cost the same to run per hour. The difference is how the heat arrives and how long it lasts, which our guide to panel heaters vs oil filled radiators covers in detail.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where can I buy an oil filled radiator in Ireland?
A: The Titan 2kW oil filled radiator is available from Shamrock Electrical at shamrockelectrical.ie. We are based in Rathcoole, Co. Dublin and deliver free across Ireland, usually within a few working days.
Q: What is the difference between the two models?
A: They are the same radiator with the same nine fins, heat settings and safety features. The timer model adds a built in 24 hour timer so you can schedule exactly when it runs. If you do not need scheduling, the standard model is the cheaper option.
Q: Do I need an electrician to use it?
A: No. It is a portable plug in radiator. Wheel it into the room, plug it in and set the thermostat. The castors, carry handle and wrap around cord storage make it easy to move between rooms.
Q: How much does it cost to run?
A: It has three settings, 800W, 1200W and 2000W. On the 800W setting it uses under 1 unit per hour, roughly €0.30 at 38.04 cent per kWh, and on full 2000W power about €0.76 per hour. The adjustable thermostat cycles it on and off to hold your set temperature, so real usage is lower. On the timer model, scheduling cuts that again by stopping it running when nobody is there.
Q: Is an oil filled radiator better than a fan heater?
A: They suit different jobs. An oil filled radiator is silent and keeps radiating heat after it switches off, so it is more economical for heating a room over several hours. A fan heater is better for a quick blast of heat.
Q: What safety features does it have?
A: It has a tip over safety switch that shuts it off if knocked over, plus built in overheat protection. It is CE certified with a 2 year warranty.
Q: What size room will it heat?
A: With 9 fins and up to 2000W of output it comfortably heats a typical bedroom, living room or home office. As a guide, 2000W suits rooms up to about 20 square metres.
Q: Do you deliver across Ireland?
A: Yes. We deliver free to every county in the Republic of Ireland, usually within a few working days, and you can also collect from our Rathcoole store.

Makes outdoor hangs so much easier—no more kitchen outlets or extension cords!
Really glad I picked up this patio heater. It kicks out heat straight away and keeps us warm without lighting up the whole garden like a bonfire. Looks great too—nice and modern. We've been able to sit out late in the evenings without freezing. Great buy!
Installed the Advanced 140 black wall-mounted infrared motion detector last week and it’s brilliant. It senses movement instantly and switches the lights on just as I enter the hallway—no fumbling for switches. Sleek black design blends beautifully with our décor, and setup was a breeze. Reliable and discreet, it gives me peace of mind and adds a touch of tech-smart convenience around the house.

Really happy with the Triton T90SR Satin. It’s so quiet compared to our last shower, and the water flow is smooth and consistent. Heats up quickly and looks great in the bathroom. Ideal for homes with low water pressure—wish I had upgraded sooner!
