What are the best Christmas lights for a window?
LED curtain lights for a full window, and a candlebridge or battery string lights for the sill. Curtain lights fill the glass with light that reads well from the street.
The Yuletide connectable LED curtain lights are static 5mm LEDs on white cable, in warm white or cool white, on mains 230V. The wooden LED candlebridge has seven warm white LED candles and runs on two AAA batteries, not included. The battery LED string lights run on three AA batteries, not included, for a sill with no socket nearby.
What size curtain lights do I need for my window?
The 2M x 2M set with 400 LEDs suits a standard window or a door surround. The 2M x 4M set with 800 LEDs suits a tall window, a gable or a double height hall.
Curtain sets connect, so two 2 metre sets side by side give a 4 metre width for a wide window. Measure the width and the drop before you order.
Can I put Christmas lights in a window with no socket?
Yes. The candlebridge and the battery string lights both run without a cable, and both have a 6 hour timer, on for 6 hours and off for 18, so they light up by themselves each evening.
The battery string lights come in four lengths: 50 LEDs on 5 metres, 100 on 7.5 metres, 200 on 15 metres and 360 on 18 metres, in warm white or cool white. They have an 8 function controller, so the light can stay steady or run an effect. Both are for indoor use only.
Can curtain lights go outside as well as in a window?
Yes. The Yuletide curtain and icicle lights are IP44 rated for outdoor and indoor use, on mains 230V.
Outdoors, keep the plug joint dry in a weatherproof box. The candlebridge and the battery string lights are different: they are indoor only, so keep them behind the glass.
Why do Irish homes put a candle in the window at Christmas?
A candle in the front window is one of the oldest Irish Christmas traditions, a sign of welcome on Christmas Eve.
