Curtain lights turn a plain window into the feature of a frontage. Instead of a single line along the top, strands cascade down the full drop, so from the road the whole window reads as lit rather than outlined. It is the set that makes the biggest difference to a house that has nothing else up.

Two drops

The 2 metre by 2 metre set with 400 LEDs suits a standard window or a door surround. The 2 metre by 4 metre set with 800 LEDs is a full storey drop, for a tall window, a gable or a double height hall inside. Both come in warm white and cool white on a white cable.

Hanging them well

Fix along the head of the window and let the strands hang free rather than pulling them taut, because the cascade is the whole effect. Outdoors, run the supply to a properly installed socket and keep the plug and any timer inside a weatherproof connection box such as the DRiBOX. Indoors they work behind a voile in a living room or across a bedroom wall, where the cascade reads as a backdrop rather than a string of lights.

Q: Which size for a normal window?
A: The 2 metre by 2 metre with 400 LEDs covers a standard window or a door surround. Go to the 2 metre by 4 metre only if you have a full storey drop, a tall stairwell window or a gable.

Q: Can I join two together across a wide window?
A: Yes, they are connectable, so two 2 metre sets side by side give a 4 metre width from one socket.

Q: Warm white or cool white on a window?
A: Warm white through glass looks softer from the road and is kinder to a room behind it. Cool white is sharper and shows up better on a grey or rendered frontage.

Q: Will they annoy the room behind?
A: Hang them outside the glass if the room is used in the evening. Inside the glass they are bright at close range, which is fine in a hall and less welcome in a sitting room.

Q: Are they suitable for a shop window?
A: Yes, and a curtain set is the single most effective thing in a retail window facing a street, because it lights the whole opening rather than the edges.
