Q: Can coloured LED strip be used outdoors?
A: This one can, because it is IP65 rated, which means dust tight and protected against low pressure water jets. Most RGB strip sold for bedrooms is unrated and will fail outdoors. Use it under cover rather than fully exposed or where water pools.
Q: What does the remote control do?
A: It sets the colour and the brightness without touching the strip, which matters once the strip is fitted behind a TV, above a cove or along a plinth where the controller is out of reach.
Q: Does it come with everything needed?
A: Yes. The 5 metre strip is supplied with a 30W LED driver and the remote controller. Strip lighting cannot run from mains directly, so the driver is essential and is included.
Q: Can I use it as the main light in a room?
A: No. RGB strip is accent and mood lighting. It is not bright enough to light a room to work in, and colour output is lower than white. Use it alongside a ceiling light rather than instead of one.
Q: Can I cut it to length?
A: Yes, but only at the marked cut points on the strip. Cutting between them breaks the circuit. Plan the run before sticking it down, because offcuts need their own connection back to a driver to work.
Q: Do I need an electrician?
A: Usually not. The driver plugs in and the strip is self adhesive. If you want the driver wired into a fixed supply or controlled from a wall switch, that is work for a registered electrician.
