Most electrical suppliers in Ireland either set a minimum order before delivery is free, or charge a flat rate that makes a small order uneconomic. Buying four downlights should not cost you a delivery charge that is a large fraction of the order, which is why free delivery here starts at the first euro rather than at fifty or a hundred.

Do you deliver downlights outside Dublin?

The counter is in Dublin but the business is national. A downlight is small, light and easy to post, so there is no practical reason a customer in Kerry should pay more for one than a customer in Rathcoole, and they do not.
Trade customers ordering in volume should ring the counter rather than order online, because trade pricing is set by account and by quantity and the website price is the retail price.
How many downlights do I need in a room?
A common working rule is to divide the ceiling height by two to get the spacing. A standard 2.4m ceiling gives roughly 1.2m between fittings, then set them out evenly.
That gets you a sensible starting grid rather than a precise answer, because the honest answer depends on the room. A kitchen with dark units needs more light than a bedroom with pale walls. A room used for close work needs more than a hallway you walk through.
Two mistakes are worth avoiding. The first is running a single line of downlights down the centre of a room, which lights the floor and leaves the walls and worktops in shadow. Fittings set closer to the walls, roughly 600mm to 900mm in, light the surfaces people actually use. The second is treating downlights as the only light in a room. They are a good general layer and a poor substitute for a task light over a worktop or a lamp beside a chair.
Can I replace my halogen downlights with LED?
Usually yes. If the existing housing takes a GU10 lamp you can often just fit an LED lamp instead. If the housing itself is old or not fire rated, replace the whole fitting.
Swapping the lamp is the quick win and it is where most of the energy saving comes from, since an LED does the same job as a 50W halogen for a fraction of the consumption and runs far cooler. Check whether the circuit is on a dimmer first, because a dimmable LED lamp on an old dimmer designed for halogen loads is the usual cause of flicker and buzzing.
Replacing the whole fitting is the better answer when the ceiling needs fire rated fittings, when the old housings are discoloured or brittle from years of halogen heat, or when you want the neater look and the colour selectable options a modern integrated downlight gives.
What cut out size do I need for a downlight?
Most modern fire rated LED downlights use a cut out between 65mm and 75mm. Check the specific model before you cut, because the sizes are not interchangeable.
This matters most on a replacement job. If your existing holes are a larger legacy size, a smaller new fitting will not cover them and you will be filling and repainting a ceiling. Measure an existing hole before ordering rather than after.

Do I need an electrician to fit downlights?
Yes. Installing or altering a lighting circuit is electrical work and in Ireland it must be carried out and certified by a registered electrical contractor under I.S. 10101.
There is more to it than the connection. Cutting into a ceiling can breach its fire resistance, which is the whole reason fire rated fittings exist, and downlights fitted into a ceiling with insulation above need to be rated for that or they overheat. Getting either wrong is a fire risk rather than a compliance detail.
Changing a GU10 lamp in an existing fitting is different and is ordinary householder maintenance. Cutting new holes and running cable is not.
